A Day in DC

Howdy everyone!!

Ebony and I had such an exciting week!! On Monday, Mom took us to the vet for Ebony's first check up, which turned out great, of course. Then on Tuesday, Mom took us to the Petsmart birthday party to take a picture and make some new friends. We got to see other dogs play the musical sit game. They were pretty good! Mom said our training is still in the works, but pretty soon we'll be just as good as them.

These are pictures of my pretty lady, Ebony during her first week in our new home. These are the few times Mom could catch her still, since we're always playing and jumping around. Isn't she beautiful!! I have to say so, myself.

Then yesterday, Mom and Dad took us to visit Fala's memorial...I mean FDR's memorial.... ;o)
We first took a stroll around Potomac Park as we walked to the Jefferson Memorial (that's the first picture you see above.) Mom and Dad say we are very photogenic. We got a lot of attention from all the tourists. I love the attention because I get to make new friends. Mom and Dad say we are the friendliest babies they have ever had.

Then we finally walked back towards the FDR memorial to visit Fala. These are the pictures Mom and Dad took:

Wheewww! We had a long trip. Even with all the snacks and water, Mom and Dad had to carry Ebony every once and a while because she insisted on getting her beauty rest. I was a trooper and kept walking the whole way. Then when we got home, Ebony was really tired.

She didn't even realize she was falling off of the sofa!!

Well, Mom and Dad are getting ready to met some friends, so we have to get in our crate. I'll be back next week!!

A Match Made in Heaven...
Happy Sunday, everyone! Well, as you can see, I'm a very happy boy this week! Although, I did find out I'm allergic to Beggin Strips and had to be rushed to the vet earlier this week, the latter part of the week was wonderful! This was me as we packed up for the weekend and headed to Maumee, Ohio to find my lovely lady, Ebony. Mom and Dad let me pick her all by myself. It was a tough decision, with several beauties to choose from, but from the moment we met, we played and played and at the end of the evening, she was still just as full of energy as I was. There was no doubt I had met my match!

This was me as I was scoping out the ladies. Ebony's breeders were absolutely wonderful and a pleasure to chat with. We hope to keep up with them, too, as Ebony and I grow up together.

This is a picture of Ebony and I as we played all evening long.

Then, we finally had a chance to rest. Ebony and I were very tired and slept very peacefully.

When morning came, we packed up and headed back home to Virgina. Ebony and I bonded through the 8 hour drive home. Dad took this picture of us with his phone. We are now at home resting and I'm excited to start our new life together. Mom will be busy taking lots of pictures of us this week. I can't wait for next weekends blog!

Have a great week!

Love,

Just being me...

Happy Easter Weekend everyone!

Well, I would like to report that Mom is doing much better now. Last week Mom realized that she needed to do something for Oreo in order to give her closure and peace with her passing. She realized she did not feel like she had done enough to commemorate her life after all the wonderful memories she had given to Mom. So Sunday evening, instead of leaving Oreo's urn on her bedroom dresser, she took time to find a special place for Oreo in our home. She was able to wrap Oreo's collar and tags around the clay molding of her paw print and hang it above Oreo's urn. Then she also placed Oreo's picture and one of her favorite children's books, "Tell Me About Love" next to it. Now, everyone can see how much love we had for Oreo and how beautiful she was when they walk in the door. Also, Mom always gets to kiss her urn before she leaves for work in the morning.

As I mentioned last week, Mom has been in search for my new companion but they have not had much luck finding her in the state of Virginia. Unfortunately, we were not able to adopt Berrie, who we mentioned last week. Although we're not sure why, we are sure God has another loving family in line for her. The three of us had a long talk and we decided apply for Miranda who is currently in Dallas, TX, and also needs a forever home. Because of her location, we know the likelyhood of being able to adopt her is very slim, but we've decided to wait another week to see if we hear anything back from the shelter. If we are not able to adopt her, we are planning to take a road trip to Maumee, Ohio next weekend, where Mom and Dad found 4 little ladies waiting for a forever home, too. If we pick her out from the litter in Ohio, we are planning to name her Ebony.

As for me, I've made this week pretty intersting for my Mom and Dad. Since I'm lonley, I've been trying to entertain myself and unfortunately, this means I've been getting into trouble, of course. After giving Mom a scare with all the stuff I've been chewing, she decided she wanted to try a puppy gate. Well, as you can imagine, I manged to get the door open on the first day. What can I say, I'm a smart pup! So they moved the gate to another room, and although, it was tricky this time, I was able to get the gate to move enough from the bottom so I could escape while they were gone. However, did I mention my succssful attempt came after I had manged to poop right in front of the gate? So as you can imagine, by the time I was able to escape, I had done some pretty artistic paw painting with my very own poop. I had jumped onto my kennel and did some artisic work there. Then I jumped onto the dinning table and did some fantastic artwork there, too. I grabbed a few things while I was on the table to chew and create a great big mess on the floor. Lastly, I decided to hop on the sofa and do a little more paw painting there, to add a finishing touch.

When Mom came home from work, I didn't bother to get back behind the gate and act like nothing had happened, either. No, instead I made sure to greet her right at the door. I don't think Mom liked my artwork, though. It took her two hours to clean it all up. She was pretty exhausted, and she didn't even yell at me. Yes! I thought I had gotten away with murder, right up until Dad got home and they took me to Petsmart. That's when they bought it--the jail cell they call the crate! Well, since, mom has a phobia about crating me, she decided to get me a really big one, but after seeking some advice, Dad decided to train me in my normal crate, which is much smaller. I can tell you that I am not liking this very much!

This morning, Mom and Dad took me to the vet because they noticed that my nose is peeling and they wanted to make sure I didn't have allergies or a skin disease, but the vet told them that I've probably been rubbing my nose on the bars of the crate too much. She told Mom and Dad to put some Neosporin on it to let it heal. The vet also said I am now 12.5 lbs! Oh, and Mom told the vet how proud she was because I am no longer using puppy pads since I can pottie outside in my usual spot now! I'm still learning how to go poopie outside, but that is still a work in progress.

Well, hopefully I will have some good news next week about finding my gal. Until then, adios y que tengan un feliz dia de Pascua! (Happy Easter!)

Love, Obie Trevino

This is a picture Mom took of me as I was observing the area as Dad got off to put gas in the car. It's a tough job, but someone's got to watch after him!

Growing

Good morning everyone.

This week has been one heck of a rollercoaster, emotionally for all of us. Mommy is taking Oreo's loss really hard. Most of the time she looks like she's okay, but a lot of times I catch her crying and restless when she thinks I'm not looking. She doesn't like to walk or sleep in the master bedroom, without me or Daddy. Just when she begins to look better, she goes into that room and remembers that Friday morning like if it were yesterday. I know she's trying to be strong for me and Daddy, but I can tell she's still hurting tremendously. Mommy took it really hard when she had to put Oreo's things away. Daddy had to help her, because it hurt her too much to do it. Mommy and Daddy miss having all of the hairs that would shed off of Oreo on their dark clothing. Even the pretty spring mornings remind them of Oreo because she used to stand by the balcony door so Mommy could open it and she could relax in the warm sun. Daddy has been a real blessing to Mommy, though. He's been so compassionate and considerate. Me and Daddy have really helped put a smile on her face. Mommy says having me helps give her a reason to be strong.

It hasn't been easy for me either. Sometimes I think I still smell Oreo around and I get excited. I saw Mommy caring Oreo's collar the other day and when I heard the jingling of her tags I looked up and got so excited to see her purple gem stone collar, but it was all alone, next to a wooden urn that has Oreo's picture and engraving on it. I'm completely confused. I also haven't had a reason to go under the bed. I used to chase Oreo under the bed and drag her out so we could play. I really miss eating my food next to her.

Mommy and Daddy took some days off to mourn Oreo's loss, so I was okay for the first part of the week. Then Mommy and Daddy had to go to work and I spent my very first day alone. Mommy hates to leave me alone, especially because she knows how playful I am and that I've always been around other friends. Mommy and Daddy are looking into getting me a new friend to play with. I really hope they find me a friend soon. Oreo was a rescue dog she took into her home, and she said after thinking and praying, she realized she would do it all over again, just to know that she had given her a better life than she would've had. That's why Mommy is looking into the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Washington, D.C.. I heard Mommy talking to Daddy about a female Scottie named Berrie, who was up for adoption. She said that if she isn't able to adopt Berrie then she will start looking for a breeder soon.

On a lighter note, I put a smile on Mommy's face this week when Daddy gave me a really bad hair cut. She says I'm lucky I'm so cute, because Daddy thinks he's a professional at everything, even when he messes up my hair. I think she convinced him to take me to a professional groomer after my hair grows out so that he can observe and maybe get some tips. He's read a lot about grooming me, but Mommy says he really should consider observing someone do it.

Oh yeah, and I've also mastered jumping on the bed and sofa all by myself. Mommy and Daddy are very proud of me. Lately, Mommy and Daddy laugh at me when I sit and watch tv so curiously when I hear unusual noises. They also got me this really cool toy that I love to play with.

Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm going to sit with Mommy now and help her make the best of this beautiful Spring day.

Love you guys,

Obie Trevino
